Men's U17 national team Takes Israel's first-ever gold

Unicorn quarterback Motty Bednarsh led the team to victory.
The team forfeited a match on Shabbat rather than play on the holy day.

The newly formed Men’s U17 team snagged a gold medal in the second-ever European youth tourney.

Since Israel scored so many points in their first games, the team made it into the playoffs, then won against Italy in the semifinals, moving on to the finals. The team was committed to observing the Sabbath and so forfeited the game to Serbia rather than play on Shabbat.  Then, in a much anticipated rematch, Israel decisively defeated Serbia 34-13 to take Israel’s first-ever Gold Medal in the European Championship. This was the first year Israel ever competed.

Thanks to Coaches Gideon Reiz and Dani Eastman for their leadership.

Flag Football leagues

The AFI operates ten different flag football leagues all over the country – men’s leagues, youth leagues, a women’s league and two co-ed leagues – involving 700 flag football players of all ages from all across the country.

Flag football is a great way to get kids and other beginners involved in the game.

It was recently announced that Flag Football will be an Olympic sport in the  2028 Los Angeles games.

The regular season starts in April, so check back for news about this year’s teams.
